Pampa Frutilla Trek

Termas Puyehue -(18km)- Anticura -(11km)- Pampa Frutilla -(14km)- Antillanca -(18km)- Aguas Calientes

The Trek to Pampa Frutilla is one of the most beautiful Treks I came across in the Region of Los Lagos, Chile. The path takes you through every terrain typical for Patagonia.

The starting point is in Anticura at the CONAF devision. You can take a bus there from Osorno which drives there once a day at 5pm or you can take the more frequently driven route to the bus station "Termas de Puyehue" in the morning and walk the last 18km to Anticura.

Isla Fresia, Lago Puyehue

Isla Fresia, on the eastern side of Lago Puyehue is a private property soon to become one of the best tourist destinations in the region. The 157km² small island consists of a centuries old native forest, small pampas and pebbled beaches. The terrain is steep and full of typical puyehue flora as well as a wide variety of fauna. You can hike the trails and swimm in the clear (drinkable) water. There is only one house on the western side of the island which is occupied by the owners about three Months of the year and can be rented between January and March.

Passing through Puerto Varas

Hitchhikeing turns out to be much more difficult than I initially thought (probably because it is not yet the high season), so I took a bus to Puerto Varas for 900 pesos. The small town is very nicely maintained and much cleaner than the city of Puerto Montt. The prices here are also higher, this being a tourist hotspot. I was able to get all my gear together and am ready to go trekking now. Checking my email I got a lot of post from my previous insurrance and the military.

Arriving in Patagonia

After a 35 hour journey from Zurich to Puerto Montt I finally arrived at my starting point in Patragonia at 9 o'clock in the morning. After a quick strole along the Shore I made my way up the steap roads of the small city to Casa Perla, where I booked my first two nights. I was greated by Perla, her sons Family. As I hadn't slept for more than a couple of hours on the journey I wasn't much of a conversationist but they all understood and left me to sort out my things an take a warm shower. As I wasn't in the mood for cooking I took back to the city for a hot meal.
