The Way of the Foot

"The Way of the foot"

Moving on (temporarily)

After the last three months back at the campo Rukapiwel I am moving on to Argentina to spend some quality time with my mom. We are visiting the National Park Iguazu at the border to Argentina and Paraguay and will then visit Uruguay to sunbath and relax on the atlantic beaches.

El Bolson - Hippy Town

After 9 days hiking and trekking near and around Bariloche, I took the bus south to El Bolson. The bus leaves the main terminal every hour or so and costs 250 argentine pesos. The bus ride takes approximatley 2h 15min. Arriving at the small town, I booked a hostel for one night, left my things there and took a look around. There are many camp sites to choose from and as the weather was sunny and hot, I thought it best to look for an ideal location before setting up camp.

Trekking Nahuel Huapi - Refugio Jakob

After having recuperated from my New Year Illness I was ready to do some trekking in the National Park Nahuel Huapi. On account of strong wind and snow the 5 Laguna trek didn't work out. I found a different route hiking up to Cerro Catedral and from there onward to Refugio Frey. This first part was a rather easy but steady upward hike. From the ski center Cerro Catedral it's a four hour hike to the Regufio. When I arrived there, the weather turned and I was hit by fears wind and snow. This was an opportunity to test my tent, the MSR Access 2.

Granja & Camping Rukawipel

It's Monday morning after my first week at the campus Rukapiwel and I'm feeling great. The sun is shining and it looks like there will be a clear sky all day.

These past seven days were packed with new experiences. The life here is simple and without much protocol. We live every day as it comes and enjoy the benefits of nature and human company. Fresh water from the stream, eggs from the chickens and ducks and this weekend we butchered a sheep for Catalina's Birthday asado.

Pampa Frutilla Trek

Termas Puyehue -(18km)- Anticura -(11km)- Pampa Frutilla -(14km)- Antillanca -(18km)- Aguas Calientes

The Trek to Pampa Frutilla is one of the most beautiful Treks I came across in the Region of Los Lagos, Chile. The path takes you through every terrain typical for Patagonia.

The starting point is in Anticura at the CONAF devision. You can take a bus there from Osorno which drives there once a day at 5pm or you can take the more frequently driven route to the bus station "Termas de Puyehue" in the morning and walk the last 18km to Anticura.

Passing through Puerto Varas

Hitchhikeing turns out to be much more difficult than I initially thought (probably because it is not yet the high season), so I took a bus to Puerto Varas for 900 pesos. The small town is very nicely maintained and much cleaner than the city of Puerto Montt. The prices here are also higher, this being a tourist hotspot. I was able to get all my gear together and am ready to go trekking now. Checking my email I got a lot of post from my previous insurrance and the military.

Arriving in Patagonia

After a 35 hour journey from Zurich to Puerto Montt I finally arrived at my starting point in Patragonia at 9 o'clock in the morning. After a quick strole along the Shore I made my way up the steap roads of the small city to Casa Perla, where I booked my first two nights. I was greated by Perla, her sons Family. As I hadn't slept for more than a couple of hours on the journey I wasn't much of a conversationist but they all understood and left me to sort out my things an take a warm shower. As I wasn't in the mood for cooking I took back to the city for a hot meal.

Countdown startet

Breakout Imminent! - Three more Months to go until I start my journey.

We've just entered into July of 2018 and according to schedule I quit my job at Postbus Switzerland and my appartement in Winterthur I've lived in the past four years to start my new life as a "foot-nomad". There are still some last pendencies to take care of like clearing all taxes, giving up my Swiss residency and insurances and definitiv planning of the first part of my trip.

3 Months to go until I fly overseas, I can barely wait.
